pl_zig is especially bad I think I was getting between 5 and 10 fps.
I have a friend who plays on a nice machine and watching over his shoulder I feel vertigo - zomg it goes too fast! >_<Del wrote: as an aside, I loaded up quake live last night after some tf2...omfg! soo smooth...Ya I know it's an old, old engine w/ a lot less going on...but jesus, I had forgotten how nice smooth gaming is. fps locked at 125, smooth fast movement...just a delight.
must be what it is like for those ppl w/ kickass machines on tf2.

Re: Anyone Else Notice
Was i just used to to the lag?? cuz it seemed no differnet to me than normal last night..
Re: Anyone Else Notice
I was having issues last night with fps, and not cause of heat, that bad boy's been put to bed already. On Chaos I was dropping as low as 10fps outside, much much less than I usually get. Changing the filtering to bilinear helped a little bit, but it was working fine before. Hmm. It seemed to have sorted itself out a bit though by the time we played mach4

Re: Anyone Else Notice
lerp is the amount of interpolation in ms
you can read about it here -
http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki ... work_Graph" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
default settings on our server is the norm, 100ms. If you force different rate settings on your client it can change.
when I use my hax it's 30ms, when I run the etfl2 config on the back yard it's 22ms....but regardless of my settings or the shouts of "lag" it's always remained constant for me, maybe a ms variance
What we should be looking at is choke, not that it is an absolute indicator, but there should be a sweet spot for client rate settings for the masses...there's always going to be some left out in the cold.
we run a fairly relaxed setup on the server allowing for quite a difference in rates and dont have any limits on ping times etc so there is always the possibility of 'warping' players due to dodgy connections or client settings
It may be that we need to increase the minimum server side rates to allow for large updates, ie 20-30 poeple in a small area
I've looked at server bandwidth usage for the last few months, and it is peanuts, so there's no problems w/ an increase (small cpu impact tho)
further reading, if you want, on lag and latency -
http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki ... mpensation" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
so that's the lerp...
another thing that may occasionally cause troubles might be the web and sql processes...they might occasionally spike briefly although I haven't noticed that in general use in the time they have been running. I'm gonna throw some performance monitors on the box.
It's up to you, the players to say at what time, specifically, there was communal 'lag' - not just one person w/ a dodgy connection! I can then check what happened on the box at that time and see if it is something outside of the gameserver process sapping juice.
Personally, I played for 3 hrs last night, from 12-3am w/ a full enough server and had no problems(and some good goddamn games!!)

specifically, and as of the time of this post!
I won't a) go back in time and create log data that is not there b) sift through an hours worth of data sampled every 5 seconds
and (this is aimed at johnny foreigner in particular) use the server time please.. just type thetime in chat and note what it says. I'm not doing time conversion either!

Re: Anyone Else Notice
You also have the server chat logs(?) and your third party stuff. =D
Re: Anyone Else Notice
Chat logs are of no use to me...just more shit to wade through tbh. But might be handy for you people. Ya'll can say something in chat that you will remember and then go to the hlx chat page, find the time you said it and note it in a post?

Re: Anyone Else Notice
I don’t still don’t think this is server related though Del I still think its Valve related. Jase was complaining of lag and jonnywhy but no one else?? to be server side it needs to be all 32 players saying "LAG" not one or 2??...
I am still blaming Valve anyway cuz from chatting to different folks some people with less uber machines are noticing the fps drop.. and this is the very same way it was for me before after getting game updates... had to update L4D last night and that also broke my heart to get working
Conclusion: Valve Suck!

Re: Anyone Else Notice
Ping was about 40 last night, so pretty good, CPU heat wern't an issue, and it's not my graphics cause they've always been fine. So yeh Valve maybe
