Why do I have to type in "www." festersplace.com???
I cannot be bothered to type all of this nonsense in, get with the times people! Just a stones throw away from typing http:// as well!

Because
http://www.festersplace.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; points to a specific IP whereas festersplace.com points to the domain hosting company. Different IPs so the protocol is needed.

It works for my also but i suspect you acces a saved copy of the webpage from a cached copy within the O/S temporary Internet Folder for downloaded content and cookies.
I am special so I want a Cookie!

I'm using Google chrome and it doesnt work for me.
Maybe one browser automatically adds www. in if it isn't defined?
