Holy Shit, now the newsies definately pissed on their own leg by showing crap tabloids (unless that stuff at the beginning is considered "real" news in the UK), but as soon as she started going on about the JC stuff... wow. Don't get me wrong, I may be an atheist, but not the kind that needs to shout it out loud (usually not knowing what they are talking about and gobbing shite, thus destroying the reputation of all other atheists).
Anywho, about halfway through the second Vid it just turned into BBC using the poor, misinformed girl as a source of humour, and ratings, now thats just bollocks.

Re: Deborah 13: Servant of God
I've only watched the first part atm. I don't like using the term but it does seem like she and her family have been brainwashed, and when she was asked questions her answers were basically her reciting what she had been told. I'm a Christian, but not because of the way I've been brought up (although it had a large part to do with it) and at the end of the day it's because of what I think, not because of what I've been told.
Her family is very reclusive (Haven't watched TV for 14 years!) and surely they are all missing out by not mixing around with other kids. There are so many experiences that they will be missing out on. Her parents seemed to have a lot of strongly formed opinions on the world in the brief interview I saw with them, like "Tv is bad, education in schools is bad" based on nothing other than their own feelings.
However I thought the reporter was asking the questions that she wanted the answers to, i.e. "Do you know that other 13-14 year olds are having sex all the time, what do you think about that" where it is implied (I thought) that all other kids of that age were having sex and that she was somehow abnormal for not. Ok most kids that age do know about sex unlike her but it's a whole step further to say that most are actively involving in it. Society shouldn't assume that she is strange for being a virgin at that age, because a whole lot of kids that age are too.
Sum up: Very strange reclusive way of living, with brainwashed kids missing out on opportunities other kids of their own age get.

Re: Deborah 13: Servant of God
Finished watching it.
As I said before, it seems she has a very mechanical faith, and says things without necessarily knowing them. I don't think it's her fault, it's just the way she's been brought up. The parents are definately taking things to the extreme, I mean playing the bible every night to 5 year olds! Wow.
Deborah has a very "in your face" way of going about things, and it's that sort of thing that gets Christianity a bad name. Especially with what they were doing with the puppets, the mother they interviewed was right saying that they were over the line with some of their act. Christianity isn't about being judgemental, it's about caring for everyone, and everyone being acceptable to God.
As for the whole "Creationist" thing, saying there is no proof for the big bang and it's all a massive theory is naive, as there is some evidence for it (slthough it's not been proved but is a best-fit theory at the moment I think?) and who's to say that God didn't create the universe with a big bang?
(Aside: The guy she listened to before going to bed was a bit mental, with saying the earth hasn't been around for millenia and dinosaurs walked round with Adam and Eve, the geological evidence is overwhelming really of the age of the earth, and archeological evidence is plain to see that there wern't humans around with the dinosaurs).
I could not believe the quote: "There's nothing wrong with even having fun at a party" - blimey, life's not meant to be miserable! It seems her folks have made her very paranoid about the world and everything in it.

Fuck, I just watched a bit more of the first part, and at some point the dad says:Jonnywhy wrote:Her family is very reclusive (Haven't watched TV for 14 years!) and surely they are all missing out by not mixing around with other kids. They don't have tv's in the bedroom, we don't have a tv per se, we haven't watched television in 14 or 15 years, but we're not completely cut off from the world. We have computers. We believe we can trust them on the internet alone in their rooms.
Obviously he hasn't been on the internet himself ...
