That´s shite, Jack.
Japaneses may have a very different way of lookin at medias and me myself couldnt understand as well why I should watch such a series after that spot.
But don´t you dare to say they bring it "down to their level" - Japan is one of the most developed and culturally backgrounded countries. If you have dealt with their history you´d have known that they had a harsh way to go being forced to get in contact with the western part of the world. They barely could handle that and after the ending of the 2nd WW they were one of the prototypes of "occupied and americanized" countries in the younger history.
For a sensitive folk like Japan this was meant to be the destruction and loss of their own identity. And to be honest it´s even hard for Europeans (like jased ) to get along with the American way of life. You have any idea how hard it was for them?!

Don´t wanna offence you, Jack. It just sets me up when we "Westerners" talk of them like they were stupid little children. The same goes out to cwmagain - uncool comment with the bomb - it was definetely not the A-bomb that made them weird in our eyes but the bomb of americanization they were exposed to.
The asian cultural sphere has been way steps further in medicine and technology when our folks were still satisfied gettin along with brewing beer.
If we wouldn´t be that influenced by global politic´s interests we could have been learning from each other for decades alrdy.
I´m not a pedant or a killjoy - and i can lmao if it gets to jokes about the dutch crazies on the server or you are pullin a leg of germans ("german" even seems to be a kinda invective - still no problem cos i think it developed by another historical background ) or reduce sbdy to it´s cultural clichees for fun sayin it right in his face - no way!
But don´t disrespect the asians for not knowing them.
