The Hövding is something that Swedish designers Anna Haupt and Terese Alstin have created especially for bicyclists who are worried not only about safety but also about their appearance. It's a collar you wear around your neck and it is, in fact, an invisible helmet. Check out the demo video:

As someone who has crashed a bike on several occasions, I think this is a great idea!

I wonder what the trigger is though?

Apparently you need to say the trigger phrase: 'Ah Fucking Bollox!' Or in the real world its probably got some form of accelerometer which detects high g's like a car airbag.

No way! LOL.. That's awesome but I can't help but think it's lame! I think the trigger device should be something that's anally inserted and senses the muscular twinge of one shitting themselves!

Just think of the faulty chinese imports though. I can almost see the headlines.

"Man looses head to fault bicycle airbag helmet".

They should try to make the one they showed in Demolition Man.. now that was safety system!

the trigger is some kind of gyroscope thingy I think, since the airbag itself reacts when the head or body is out of angle. Maybe coupled with some force recognition thingy or else tieing your shoe laces real quick could result in you suddenly wearing a diaper hat.

The idea is nice, the implementation probably not very economic. The dummies fail, especially in the last segment of the video.
It's not a real test in my opinion. If a real human would have such an accident, the typical reaction would be to dampen your fall with your hands but crash test dummies don't do that.
The hands and arms in that case would take a much higher impact than the head itself, which will be obstructed by an air filled balloon that robbed you of your accustic sense while quickly opening to save your head from injuries.
This needs to be tested by the crew from jackass.
