1997 we got it. 56k modem dialup cost 2p/min after 6pm and weekend, 5p/min peak time. Was winter and always watched eurosport (as i liked winter sports) so signed up for a eurosport email address (marc.selby@eurosport.com) which was kinda neat as it felt like i was in the media. Obviously, the internet was shite and slow. I was 12 and only went on zone.com which was a microsoft game website (chess, backgammon etc... have usernames)... made a stars wars episode 1 website on Homestead a few years later and then BANG Half Life came out and the wonders of TFC and Counterstrike (also unreal tournament, quake). My mum kept picking up the phone and all she heard was khegkkgakgadrhgkahrgkahrkgnaknga fkj, the internet froze, so did the phoneline for some reason... very annoying when I was in a clan league game and she needed to use the phone.

me and my mate were obsessed but to play online first we needed an upgrade because our connections were too slow. Modern days it'd be playing TF2 with 500 ping. so we told our parents "mum, dominic is upgrading his internet to play this and that" so he toldhis parents "marc is upgrading..." it worked and that was it, TFC and Counterstrike ruled until 2005. I even headed the PC Zone Mag TFC clan (if i get the magazine issue numbers you can check it... im in there). 2005 - (where online gaming stopped for me anyway as both became obsolete and unpopular).

Then walked through ASDA and caught a glimpse of PC Gamer and TF2 simply stood out. Ignited the love again.

but apart from online gaming i use internet for everything and anything, who doesnt.

1997 it started - oh the days of chess

I remember Lycos, napster, ask jeeves (before it returned),
