The trick is to play [all day - 1 hour at the end] and then leg it through the tasks you've been allocated and either be finishing the last when they come home, or have a dinner on so when they do come home they can't complain. Stuff that goes in the oven is good as you can lob that in and then have a leisurely smoke or two while you wait. Once you hear the car coming make like you're in the middle of another unrequested task and they've taken you by surprise (ie be coming down the stairs with a basket of dirty laundry, or be peeling spuds in the kitchen when they walk in).

Of course it fools no-one but they can't PROVE anything!
