Following a discussion on the alltalk I decided to make a topic about beer - I was particulary amazed about you irish people dislike for good head and I think I once heard somebody like dutch beer - yech ( Props to jased for his good taste in belgian beer ). So post in this here topic the beers you like from your homecountry and beyond! I'll start - I have been drinking and trying beers for the last 8 years now, and apart from that i'm a bartender in a smaaalll pub and was ( now promoted ) prime kegmaster in a student club.

1) The jupiler, a pale lager. Tapped from a good clean tap, by somebody that knows what he's doing, it is the nectar of the gods. None of the pussy gods but the real manly gods like Thor and Odin and such.



2) Duvel, translates into 'Devil'. There are contests here and there among the student pubs like 'drink ten in an hour and don't puke' and win the pot - this pot being a jar filled with 5 euro bills. A friend of mine lost a bet of one thousand euros to a huge american - he drank 12 in 3 hours. they guy in question didn't remember the night and woke up covered in blood. stuffs 8.5% alcohol and absolutely delicious. Your puke will be black of you overdo them



3) Straffen hendrik, a bruges beer ( i'm from bruges by the way ). Its 9% and a very good beer. This is the stuff we give to boastful tourists so they keel over :p



4) one of my alltime favourites: Piraat or pirate. This fella goes a good 10.5% alc vol and tastes spicy, light and sweet. I'm in love with this beer.


5) Others

I'm not going to go on about every beer I drink and like, I have drank many many different kinds in my time as kegmaster and plan to try even more.

Chimay Grande reserve ( Blue )
Cuvee des trolls
Jupiler Tauro
Leffe blonde, Brown, 9°..
bârbar
Rochefort 10°
.. practically every Real belgian Trappist

one that I haven't tried but really want to is the WestVleteren 12, a rare beer made by real monks - they make only so much every time and there are huge queues to order it

- Qua foreign beers i like Carlsberg, Guiness, and some greek lager that i can't recall.

My favourite Pilsner, after that comes Flensburger and Okanagan Springs. Generally if it comes to Pilsner I prefer stronger tasting ones like the Fresians and Bremers make.


My favourite cheaper-beer, still better than a whole bunch of more expensive brands

Other than that.. dunno, like Beamish and a bunch of Bavarian brews, especially stuff from Innstadt and Harkelberg (real ones, not the Dutch Shite called Bavaria).

What I really like to to is just drink the local stuff, and any stuff I haven't tried yet when travelling, thats what I like about being in Germany at the moment, not much you can do wrong when deciding what to buy.

Can't say I like the whole Belgian idea of adding fruit aroma and stuff to beer, but that doesn't mean I'm a tosser who always has to order Becks when in a foreign country. (do actually consider Becks one of the worst German beers because the taste was developed for foreign markets, like America.)

I'm going to add that fruit flavoured beers, most commonly Kriek ( cherry ) is frowned upon by Men and is generally refered to as Girlbeer.

Duvel is one of my all time favorites :p my pub was out the other day and i had to opt for a Bombardier.

The only decent industrial italian beer i tasted is Menabrea (its a lager). I dont know much about local breweries, there's one in Milan that makes some great beers but they dont sell them in a bottle.

I wanted to try so many beers when i was in belgium, but over the course of a year i only got through about two dozen. Might have lost track...all super tasty.

Some of the happiest memories are of skipping philosophy lectures to sit in a local sunny beer garden on a weekday afternoon, having an omlette and nice leffe blond or hoegarden. Watching the world go by, smoking a few cigarettes, cold cold tasty beer, bitta sun.

Good times, good times.

I like a beer that infact isnt actually a beer. its a drink called "coke" and has a very artificial and sweet taste to it. they infact have different varities of it, my favourite being the "diet" variety that's the famous glass bottle that it comes in.
