hey folks. As you might have recognised, I am not online atm. The corporate bastards turned off my modem because I didn't pay the bills. I guess it had to happen sooner or later.
I already got a new modem and free internet but the connection out the window is shit so it might take a while till I got the antenna installed properly on the roof somewhere.
A mate of me has a 6 Mbit connection with his antenna, he got 18 Mbit with mine. I'm pretty sure it will kick ass once I got it set up properly. For now I have 1 Mbit out the window but the connection to the gateway breaks off all the time.
One of these days I will be back online again.
So long mates.

a pole and water proof box and your sorted, all depends how far away your link needs to cover, if its short 2 of these will do

Sad to hear of yer netz troubles smoke.
I also had nets from a similar setup at 1 point. Free and twas quick straight outta some company in galway if i remember rightly
However make sure you use a good strong pole for the antennae, I returned home from a party after going out the night previous, absolutely fucked! And i notice the wind bent the pole in half and my nets was gone, twas pretty reliable until that

Twill be an interesting project to get sorted out anyhow

Maybe escape the computer for a bit and "burn off some geeky white". I did this very thing the last day

Hope you are well m8!

http://www.funkfeuer.at" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is what I'm going to use in the future, there's some english translation on the site for anyone interested.
I have one of those wlan router thingies or whatever it is but trees block the signal or whatever, it's pretty bad from the groundfloor, atm I get 0.400 packets from the tower and it only gets 0.070 of mine which is way too low ...that's if I get a signal at all and the gateway thingy gets initiated.
Thanks for the links fester, I got everthying I need though except for a 30m patch cable.
this one I got

Ah good stuff Smoke that bit of kit will do the job perfectly

the problem i found about getting enough height to clear tree's is... fecking tree's grow.. and you will keep needing more height, i recommend becoming a lumber jack and gathering some fire wood
But seriously the higher you can get the better and you can use a maximum of 100meters of Ethernet cable, well you can use more but it will affect speeds slightly... so time to get on the roof with a pole and your router and see how it goes
Best of luck getting your signal improved man
Edit: i have just been reading through that FunkFeuer website, it looks like where my mate got the idea from

its the same set up idea as a local German fella that lives here has done, i know he spent some time with a couple guys in Austria, either way Smoke a great community idea to be involved with! mind me asking which part of Austria your located in? is it Graz?
also i love there moto

A guy I worked with was determined to login to our work wifi from home. He lived a couple of minutes away but with buildings in between. He went as far as building a cardboard/tin foil parabolic dish...sadly it didnt work and he was forced to pay for his own internet....

He should've went the pringles cantenna route rather than parabolic dish

Hey smoke, I did wonder where you'd gone, even asked a couple of people if they knew
Hope you get it all sorted soon!

I read about those a while back, fantastic idea!
If you wanted to go the parabolic dish route, it definitely works, these guys got their wifi link going 125 miles with some massive dishes:
