having locked teams from random, could cause problems.

If we want to do something offical, like RED v BLUE team comradery.

have everyone who is on, or wants to play, then look at stats and put number 1 on one team, 2, 3 on the other 4 with number 1 guy, etc etc.

Everyone gets into a circle and is given a number, then the two captains take it in turns to pick numbers and so join that team
