as an aside, I loaded up quake live last night after some tf2...omfg! soo smooth...Ya I know it's an old, old engine w/ a lot less going on...but jesus, I had forgotten how nice smooth gaming is. fps locked at 125, smooth fast movement...just a delight.

must be what it is like for those ppl w/ kickass machines on tf2.

vertical synchronisation - the frames pumped out by your gfx card is locked to that of your monitors refresh rate...normally 60 or 75Hz. You only get full frames rendered on screen. It can stop 'tearing' if you are pumping out too many frames.
tearing is where new frame information comes in while a previous frame is due to be drawn so you get part of one frame and part of another.

Noticable when turning especially
It also means that when it's on and you experience a drop in FPS below your refresh rate you end up with half your FPS. If you game is running at 100 fps but capped due to V-Sync at 60FPS then as soon as you fall below 60FPS your actual FPS goes to 30. If you fall below 30 then your FPS changes to 15 etc.... This is due to timings and your card waiting for the monitor to be told to refresh and effectively causing graphics card frame buffer loses/lags.

Del wrote:I dunno xexes, my experiments w/ changing res did feck all. between lowest and highest the only difference was additional fps when it was already fast enough, when the fps drops, it drops(for me) regardless of resolution...it seems that my cpu just cannot pump out the frames quick enough to the gfx card
I had the exact same experience. Changing resoloution did fuck all. I even went down to 600 x whatever and it ran badly and looked god dam awful. I can play on full res widescreen now and it runs fine. Just looks a bit odd at times. No where near as bad as the really low res does though.

I have a kickass machine and it's still far from smooth on TF2.
Bloody thing runs Far Cry2 smoother most of the time.

I will have to try it again. I tried it once, but there were random bodies in random places. I would see people spawn in the middle of the map, so I was confused a lot. Guess I should have tried tweaking the tweaker?

Ok that does happen a little bit, always in the same places though. Small price to pay imo, but maybe not to everyone. You can probably get rid of it if you play around with it.

In annoying places...like middle of bridge in 2fort, middle of lower ground in chaos, on cap point in harvest....I've wasted so much ammo shooting corpses :(

one thing you lose is te h sprays.

I thought I had it sussed w/ a cpl of commands but it only shows the 1st spray for a second or so if yer lucky, so I've been twiddling...

this should see ye right, by editing your l33t hax file and adding/editing these values

Code: Select all

mp_decals 200
