I have to say possibley the orignal Half-Life or Crusader No Remourse were great games!

Depends - you would have to categorise it I think.
One of my personal all time faves - and those who have also played it stoned will probbably agree - the original worms. All the new 'cute' worms have been ok, but the original was basic and hardcore. I used to play it in the pub I worked at after all the punters had gone home - on the screen that was normally used to show the football, and through the pub sound system BOOM!
I used to love playing (imagine a somerset farmer saying it) 'gerrof my land' matches - disable everything but ninja rope, bunjee rope, blowtorch, shotgun and dynamite!

I agree with Johnimus the original worms was(is is more appropriate) classic game. I remember going to a friends house and playing the second one.

LEMMINGS! What a game! I still play it from time to time. Like worms the follow-ups were never as good.
I'd agree with you 100% Rattlehead on the first half-life game. Whan I came across that shark type of thing with the massive mouth for the first time i nearly shat myself

Final Fantasy 7, played it many times, is a contender.
I logged hundred of hours online with Medal of Honour Allied assualt. First clan too so it was happy times.
God i don't know, i think i could do it by genre maybe...

I'd say the best RTS has to be...Total Anihilation! Even years after I first played it, it's teriffic! Tho Dawn of War is also a very good game
