The HP factory in Birmingham recently closed and I think demonlished. I heard they were shipping the processing out to India but the Netherlands sounds about right. Another great British heritage gone a drift. It's belting stuff along with worcestershire sauce. I prefer it in corned beef ash when it's settling in a large yorkshire pudding.

Being from Wigan, there is only 1 choice: The meat and potato pie ("meyt n tatu pa'")

Ingredients:
500 gms of soft shin, cut into small cubes
Seasoned Flour
Cooking oil
1 onion, peeled & sliced
2 carrots, peeled & sliced (optional)
350mls of beef stock
Salt & black pepper
500 gms of potatoes, peeled, cut into cubes & parboiled
Short crust pastry

Method
Dust the meat with the seasoned flour. Heat the oil in a pan & fry the meat & onion until lightly browned. Add the carrot (if desired), stock & seasoning. Bring to the boil, cover and simmer for at least an hour or until the meat is very tender. (The longer and more slowly the meat is cooked the better). When the meat is ready mix in the drained potato cubes. Put into a deep pie dish or casserole and cover with a short crust pastry crust. Make three slits in the top of the pastry (for the steam to escape), brush with beaten egg or milk and bake for about 40 minutes at 200C until the pastry is golden brown.

Take 2 thick slices of white bread
butter 1 side on each
add several think cut slices of roast beef
spread a generous quantity of horseradish sauce over the beef(or between each slice if you are feeling adventurous)
a few crunchy leaves of iceburg lettuce
put the second slice of bread on top
Munch.

Love me a roast beef sandwich.

btw johnimus down here in the south we like salt and vinegar on our chips with a dollop of ketchup(sometimes mixed with mayo)

I´d love to make a steak and kidney pie on my own.
Does anyone of you have a good recipe for it?
Cos - as I once mentioned - I had that steak&kidney pie experience in London.
I´ll never forget how tasty this stuff was. And it also has been my 1st contact with HP sauce.
So pls leave a how-to-do for it here!

And I have another question (according to Selby):
Do you buy that pastry stuff as a convenient product? I don´t think that I get it over here in that form. So is there a standard way how to make it?!

I was always marveling why you put the strangest things to "corned beef".
Now I have the solution for that:

Over here it means a sort of banger you put on a slice of bread.
Because of its amount of gelatine (in former times when it wasnt made in that industrial, chemical way it has been curtled beef stock - you know when it gets cold and more solid caused by the fat) it is comparable to

This is stuff I slap in my sandwiches. A few slices of this, a slab of cheddar and a load of mayo is a very nice sandwich!

Yam that shit is disgusting. corned beef in a can uugh!!!!! :o :o :o :o

What don posted is a proper joint of corned beef, boiled and sliced. It looks good.

Corned beef is best diced up and added to boiled spuds, carrots and peas and two or three oxo cubes, some herbs and cornflour to thicken the gravy... mmmmmmmm... add brown sauce or worcestershire sauce for tang. Make sure you put the ash in a nice large yorkshire pudding (tip: make sure you have deep plates or large bowls)
