Yume Nikki has for some time been recognised as a brilliant freeware game. I typically dislike Flash or Freeware games, because +90% are rubbish. This game however shot my theory square in the head. I love horror games and this is a no brainer for one of the scariest I have ever played.
Not jump out from around a corner and scare you, that type of game gets predictable and you very quickly numb yourself to the next zombie that jumps out at you. This however is the Japanese style "Get in your mind and kick it around a few times". Its unreal when playing it.
You are simply a little girl who lives in a tiny apartment. When you go to sleep, you enter a freaky dream world. Unlike Psychonauts where each dream is a maze of platforming goodness, these are more related to actual dreams. Dark, spooky, wierd, repeating itself, and tons more. To win, simply find all the items while exploring your dreams (I think). But the experience comes from finding the hidden story dreams where off the walls freaky shit happens.
It's original to say the least, and will not be every ones cup of tea, but it is damn fun, searching the messed up mind.
