Google Chrome Browser
Re: Google Chrome Browser
well, i wouldn't say so. Google Chrome architecture appears to be as vulnerable as others, e.g. it suffers from the "Carpet Bomb" exploit, because they based it on an older Webkit engine. http://blogs.zdnet.com/security/?p=1843
You can argue it's "beta" , however, that would have been an easy one to spot and squash.

We were talking about the sophistication of the browser not the security, two different things.kab wrote:well, i wouldn't say so. The browser is only partially based on the webkit engine, however even as a beta google should have patched the exploit.
Your right fester.

Original story
Astute Reg readers have pointed out a Chrome condition of service that effectively lets Google use any of your copyrighted material posted to the web via Chrome without paying you a cent.
Here's the relevant section 11.1 of the Chrome EULA:
11. Content licence from you
11.1 You retain copyright and any other rights that you already hold in Content that you submit, post or display on or through the Services. By submitting, posting or displaying the content, you give Google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free and non-exclusive licence to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any Content that you submit, post or display on or through the Services. This licence is for the sole purpose of enabling Google to display, distribute and promote the Services and may be revoked for certain Services as defined in the Additional Terms of those Services.
(Updated 4 Sep '08 0830 GMT) Google has amended section 11.1 of the Chrome EULA so that it now reads:
11.1 You retain copyright and any other rights that you already hold in Content that you submit, post or display on or through the Services.
hmmmmmm.

I don't think that is solely uploaded via Chrome. Just putting it on Google gives them the "right".
Heavy, let it out fella. Although I think it may be the wrong thread for that
Something I've done myself... numerous times!

Re: Google Chrome Browser
In Germany the state institution for IT-security issued a general warning to the public against using Chrome in it's current beta state, apparently there are back-doors springing up all over the place (6 critical ones and counting when the warning was issued).
On top of that, the data that gets typed into the Omnibox gets sent to google (even if you only type without clicking on send), but we already know this since its needed for the auto-recommendation system they have.. what wasn't said right from the start is that a portion of that data gets permanently saved on google servers, together with the IP address(currently about 2%).

I mean, it's all windy stairs. I'm not being funny.
Re: Google Chrome Browser
I think the real reason google think they need a browser out there is due to Microsoft's IE8 looking to mess up their ad system.
In my view, people are being way too critical of Chrome and are seemingly forgetting it is a beta.
The license issue is resolved as google have removed all of those terms.
Nearly all of the major exploits have also now been patched.

Yeah this institute is meant to serve the general public and since Chrome managed the top-3 for browsers they went right out and said that it; there is a reason it's still a Beta, hence not recommended for the average user.Engima wrote:In my view, people are being way too critical of Chrome and are seemingly forgetting it is a beta.

Re: Google Chrome Browser
I've gotta say I feckin hate IE with a passion; in all its incarnations. M$ couldn't get it right if they wanted to. The web standards are well dcoumented but yet they insist on creating programs that do things differently.
I've done a few websites of late and I go through the rigmaroll of testing each site on FF2, FF3, IE6, 7 and 8. FF has been by far the most consist (with only a few minor changes on CSS Styles) but IE. Fucks everything up from the get go.
As with most thing M$ and probably other programs they have yet again stolen a cool feature I use in FF called "Firebug". So now IE 8 has an addon that allows you to delve further into web site HTML, JS and CSS and other nice things.
If you wanna see IE8 then wait. There are a few caveats relating to IE 8 and SP3 that needs attention prior to installing it.
